THE HATE PLAY

Spring 2026

A dynamic, engaging and challenging performance on social inclusion and tackling bullying and hate crimes amongst young people in secondary schools

About the Play

Ideally suited for Year 8 Length: 75 mins

This performance tackles issues of bullying, victimisation and hate
crime. The powerful, interactive performance portrays the devastating
effects bullying can have on the emotional well-being, health and
social cohesion of a group of young people. It addresses the reality of
bullying, specifically hate crime, honestly. It also explores the
dynamics of teenage friendships and peer pressure.

Topics covered during the play and interactive elements include: the
impact of bullying on the victim, the bully and their friends; just how
easily a game can rapidly descend into bullying; the audience
members working out what went wrong and why; the acceptance by
the group of responsibility for what went wrong and the students’
thoughts on how to change what happens to ensure bullying does not
take place.

The play showed how much a person who gets bullied suffers and how to act towards bullying if you see it happen. I think the way they acted it was good because it involved us and showed us what we might do and could have done
