While many students and teachers were enjoying a well-deserved half-term break last week, those involved in the Scunthorpe Shakespeare project headed to North Lincolnshire Central Library for the final Gathering, a sharing of their creative writing inspired by their experience of Box Clever’s performance of and textual workshops on Romeo and Juliet.

25 students from each of the partner schools: Winterton Community Academy, The St Lawrence Academy, North Lindsey College and Sir John Nelthorpe School met for the first time to hear their work recited by actors, Riad Richie, Maria Simmonds and Cory Stuckey.

The whole project was a wonderful experience for all concerned with the students having the opportunity, as one teacher commented, to write for pleasure rather than exams and to see creative writing valued and appreciated. We’d like to thank the schools who welcomed us so warmly and made the project so memorable, and especially the students who produced such amazing pieces for the Gathering.
